About Clockwork

What makes us tick

Background

We were established by CEO John Pinner in 1987 with the aim of providing scalable bespoke applications for business. Part of John's motivation was that during his career in engineering with a major motor manufacturer, he had a brief to introduce software systems required to prepare the company for selling-off. He discovered the standard of available software and advice was so poor, that he became convinced there was a need for something better and started his own company, Clockwork Software Systems.

Today

Now, nearly 20 years later, we have gone from that original one-man business to a team of ten in our own offices in the West Midlands. We are still growing, and always on the lookout for talented individuals. We have built up close links with the Open Source community around the UK and worldwide partly due to our community involvement.

At Clockwork, we specialise in bespoke software and systems solutions for businesses, whether it is supporting a couple of PCs in a small business, supplying bespoke applications (e.g. BMIHT, Ford) , providing a complete desktop environment (Speedy Hire PLC) or producing an open source payroll (Peters Bakery).

Through our sister-company The Linux Emporium on-line shop we offer a range of Linux based products including IBM and Lenovo hardware, VoIP hardware and training, wireless cards, Linux distros and other software, programming training and IT consultancy services, plus merchandise.

Internally, we have a wide, in-depth skillset covering, for example :
